Solidarity Center Report: Bahraini Medics, Patients Persecuted in Ongoing Repression

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Sick or injured Bahrainis risk prison or even death when they go to a hospital, said Rula Al-Saffar, president of the Bahrain Nursing Society. Ongoing repression in Bahrain in the wake of the 2011 pro-democracy protests has resulted in the “militarization of hospitals,” she said. Al-Saffar was in Washington, D.C., this week to meet with members of Congress and policymakers and urge them to demand Bahrain abide by international laws regarding patients’ rights.
