BWI Picket Supports Retail and Food Workers(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Baltimore-area activists braved unseasonably chilly weather Wednesday afternoon to show their support for retail and food workers at BWI, picketing outside the airport’s departure area. About 800 workers there are fighting for better pay, longer shifts and healthcare. These used to be part of their jobs, but have been eroded away by years of race-to-the-bottom tactics from the various employers within the airport who compete to underbid each other, reports Unite Here Local 7, which is calling for a better model for the airport's workers. - Mariya Strauss; photos by Meghan Cohorst
