DC
metro
area residents interested in getting into
good-paying construction jobs can apply now for the next
Building Futures class. The 6-week
pre-apprenticeship training program runs May
through June and offers a
combination of classroom and hands-on
activities with an orientation to the
construction industry, as well as rights and
responsibilities at work.
Candidates must be at least 21 years old, have
a valid driver's license or
learner's permit, be drug-free, and have a high
school diploma or GED. “Most
importantly, they should be serious about a
career in construction,” says
Kathleen McKirchy, Executive Director of the
Community Services Agency (CSA),
which runs the DOL GJIF-funded program. There
will be an information session
this Thursday, March 28 from 1–2:30p at the
Deanwood Library (1350 49th Street,
NE) where interested students can speak
directly with a Building Futures
graduate currently working in the field.
Pre-screening of applicants
after 2:30pm. “Please pass this along to
anyone you think might be interested,”
urges McKirchy. -
