This Poem Could Save A Life(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Calling it “one of the most reach out and slap me in the face poems I have ever read,” IUEC Local 10’s Tammie Harris has posted “I Chose to Look the Other Way” on Local 10’s website. The moving poem includes the line “I could have saved a life today, but I chose to look the other way. It wasn't that I didn't care, I had the time and I was there.” Says Harris, “Not only am I the admin assistant here at Local #10, but I am the mother and sister of IUEC mechanics. The job that these mechanics and apprentices do is dangerous enough without someone or something on the job not doing the right thing. If you see someone, from our trade or another trade, doing something they should not be doing, or just making the wrong decision because they are in a hurry, say something.”
