Metro Council Meeting Features Singing and Streetheat(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Monday’s Labor Council meeting got off to a rousing start with the DC Labor Chorus leading delegates in high-spirited renditions of some of the social justice favorites that will be performed at the Chorus’ upcoming Spring Concert on May 4. The energy continued with reports on a full schedule of demonstrations, rallies and local labor events. Highlights include community and labor allies speaking out this morning at the Wilson Building in support of the Large Retailer Accountability Act of 2013, followed by simultaneous noontime “Repeal the Sequestration!” rallies in front of the Department of Labor and the M Street Social Security office. This Sunday, letter carriers and postal workers will gather in Gaithersburg to demand an end to cuts threatening the US Postal Service. Delegates also took action to endorse the DC Driver’s License Amendment Act of 2013, which would allow District residents to get a driver’s license regardless of immigration status.
