WTU Scholarships for DC Students; Ashcraft Offers $5,000 to Trades Scholars; Union Plus LaborCorps Education Grants

Washington Teachers Scholarships Available to DC Students Who Will Teach in DC: To create a new core of dynamic teachers to contribute and influence education policy, the Washington Teachers’ Union Scholarship Fund will award four $20,000.00 academic scholarships—$5,000.00 per year renewable up to four years based upon academic performance and matriculation—to students who will pursue teaching careers in D.C. public schools. Applicants must be a resident of the District of Columbia and a prospective graduate of D.C. public schools; applications must be postmarked and mailed by March 15. Ashcraft Offers $5,000 Scholarship to Trades Scholars: The law firm of Ashcraft and Gerel is again this year offering the Lee C. Ashcraft Memorial Scholarship. The one-time $5,000 education grant is open to Washington Building and Construction Trades Council members and their families. Union Plus LaborCorps Education Grants: With student loan debt now surpassing $1 trillion – Union Plus is now offering grants to assist young labor activists with the high cost of their student loans. Young labor activists who work full time for an eligible labor union or affiliated labor organization can apply for a grant of up to $2,000 to help pay off their student loans. Application deadline: 12p (EST) on July 31; grants are only available for as long as funds last. Click here for details on eligibility and an online application.
