In Memoriam: Jack Joyce, Former Bricklayers President

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Jack Joyce (right), former president of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union and former Executive Council Member of the AFL-CIO, passed recently. “An innovator and an intellectual, Joyce truly believed in the dignity of work and continuously used his talents, experiences and creativity to serve the interests of working men and women,” said AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. “As president, he strengthened the Bricklayers through the expansion of apprenticeship and training opportunities, improving job safety, building broader membership, and the establishment of good labor-management practices – all of which have contributed to the creation of good jobs in the construction industry and strengthened collective bargaining for years to come." - photo courtesy BAC
