Wage Theft and Debt Focus of Two Wednesday Demos(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Popular Georgetown seafood restaurant Tackle Box and the "Common Ground Summit" on Capitol Hill will be the target of noontime demonstrations tomorrow. The DC Employment Justice Center says Tackle Box owner Jonathan Umbel owes his workers more than $4,000 in unpaid wages; supporters will demand full payment at 12 noon at Tackle Box. Meanwhile local activists will target "Fix the Debt," a group of Wall Street corporations calling for cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid while collecting massive bail-outs, spending millions to influence the budget debate and continuing to demand even more tax breaks. The demo starts at 11:30a outside the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill where "Fix the Debt" is holding a "Common Ground Summit."
