Grossfeld Steps Down from MontCo Worker Safety and Health Commission
Monday, February 4, 2013
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Longtime health and safety activist Jim
Grossfeld is stepping down as chair of the
Montgomery Co. Worker Safety and Health
Commission. "It's been seven years since the
labor/community coalition for safer jobs - the
Worker Health and Safety Initiative -- was
first organized," Grossfeld (at right in
blue shirt) says. "One of the top items on
our agenda then was the creation of the
commission. When it was formed it was the only
one of its kind in the US, and, sadly, it still
is." As the Commission's first member and
founding Chair, "I've been thrilled to have the
opportunity to work with trade unionists,
public health practitioners and community
activists throughout the Washington area and
beyond," says Grossfeld, a CWA member. "With
the labor movement’s continued support for
the commission's work -- particularly its focus
on the dangers facing immigrant workers --
there's no question that Montgomery Co. won't
only be a good place to live, but a safer place
to work." Photo: Grossfeld (far right) at
