Labor/Progressive Inauguration Weekend Preview

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Local labor and community activists are gearing up for an eventful Inauguration weekend. On Saturday morning members of UFCW 400 and NALC Branch 3825 will join in the Martin Luther King Jr. PeaceWalk along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE. Throughout the day transit workers and allies will be leafleting at various metro stations reminding riders about the importance of public transit. Sunday evening the DC Labor Chorus and the Imani Center will host the “Gonna Take Us All” Inauguration Ball, complete with food, drink, and dancing. In addition, progressive activists from across the country will participate in a wide range of events and actions, from the Progressive Democrats of America’s “Peoples' Inauguration” to rallies against war and abuse of the environment.
