Union Says Shoppers Not Affected by Supervalu Deal(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)UFCW Local 400 members who work at Shoppers Food & Pharmacy “can rest assured that the Supervalu-Cerberus deal should have no impact on them,” said Local 400 President Mark Federici on Monday. Supervalu has agreed to sell five other grocery stores -- Albertsons, Acme, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s and Star Market – to Cerberus Capital Management, but is keeping Shoppers, along with Cub, Farm Fresh, Shop ‘n Save, Hornbacher’s and Save-A-Lot. “We are vigilantly monitoring Supervalu’s efforts to reorganize and restructure itself,” Federici added, “and we are making sure that our members’ voices are heard and their interests are addressed throughout the process” including “letting management know of our continued outrage over Supervalu’s use of the non-union Save-A-Lot banner, and preparation for our 2014 bargaining.” - click here for the full report from UFCW 400; photo: UFCW 400 member Kevin Freeman, Shoppers #2618; photo courtesy UFCW 400
