Solidarity Center News: Workers in Mexico, El Salvador Fired for Backing Unions(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Eleven workers (right) from PKC wire harness plants in Mexico launched a hunger strike this week to demand the right to form a union. They were among 122 workers fired by the Finnish autoparts company in mid-December for what they say is retaliation for seeking to form a union. In El Salvador, 96 workers were fired by the airline transportation company AERODESPACHOS after seeking job safety and a voice at work with the union, SITIAPES. The global union movement is joining with the workers in calling on the El Salvadoran government to end its contract with the company.
