AFSCME Members Win New Management at MVA(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Facing a hostile work environment – and even workplace violence – AFSCME 3655 members at the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) recently turned to their local union and its parent Council – AFSCME Council 3. Nearly half of the MVA workers at Beltsville filed grievances and worked through the Labor Management Committee (LMC) the union had negotiated. Through their collective action they successfully demanded the replacement of both the Branch Manager and Assistant Manager. "When we come together through AFSCME 3 we can make a real difference” said Local 3655 President Mildred Womble (right). “The improved work environment is good for workers and good for the taxpayers who need the important services we provide." - photo of Womble courtesy AFSCME Maryland
