Solidarity Center News: Bangladesh Workers, Global Migrants, Need Voice at Work(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

The tragic deaths of more than 111 garment workers in Bangladesh highlights the need for a solution that’s now lacking in that nation’s factories: the ability of workers to be able to assert their rights, organize unions with their co-workers, raise safety concerns and demand better working conditions according to their best judgment. Migrant workers also face serious abuse as part of human trafficking around the globe, and the Solidarity Center’s Neha Misra testified in Congress this week on how empowering workers to have a voice in their workplace through organizing unions is a powerful step to addressing this growing scourge.
