Working Families Say "No More Tax Cuts for the Rich!"

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Working Families Say (Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Less than 48 hours after the polls closed last week, working families in communities across the country called on their members of Congress to protect Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and to end George Bush’s tax cuts for the richest 2 percent. Retirees, activists and members of progressive and faith communities will host close to 100 events targeting members of Congress during the upcoming Lame Duck session. Donna Edwards (D, MD 4), Chris Van Hollen (D, MD 8) and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D, DC) have already pledged their support. The AFL-CIO joined with progressive allies on November 8 to run a full-page ad in the Washington Post calling on President Obama and Congress to support Social Security, health care, education, infrastructure, and job creation – while asking everyone, including the wealthiest, to pay their fair share. “Working families here and across the country are still struggling,” said Metro Council President Jos Williams. “We can’t afford to pay for any more tax breaks for those who need them the least." - photo: November 8 action a block from US Senator Mark Warner’s office in Tyson’s Corner; photo courtesy NNU
