CWA Says Public Financing of DC Elections Would Set Standard for Campaign Reform(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)“Get big money out, get voters back in.” CWA legislative director Shane Larson urged swift passage of the Public Financing of Elections Act of 2012 at last Friday’s D.C. Council Committee on Government Operations hearing on the measure, which would provide for public financing of elected offices in the District and is being supported by CWA, the Metro Washington Council and other organizations. Larson told the Committee that the measure would “help restore our broken political system and end a system of election campaigns primarily financed by corporations and the wealthy.”  The proposed measure calls for a panel to review and develop a system of public financing for District elections, based on a New York City model that Larson called an example of “one of the most democratic and politically viable campaign finance reforms in our nation." - photo courtesy of The Center for Media and Democracy's PR Watch
