In Memoriam: Dorothy Jones Shields

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Dorothy Jones Shields, former director of the AFL-CIO union’s education department, died Oct. 16 at Copper Ridge Nursing Home in Sykesville, MD. She was 77. Shields (at right) joined the AFL-CIO in 1972 and was director of the education department, she was involved in such issues as continuing education for workers and public education, and served on the board of the George Meany Center for Labor Studies. She retired in 1996.
