Monday, November 5, 2012

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Joseph Monte, co-founder and president of two area education unions, is the subject of a profile in Sunday’s Washington Post Magazine.  Now 80, Monte, the senior member of the guidance resource counseling staff at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington. is the oldest guidance counselor in the Montgomery County Public Schools system, and the story tells how he’s been “a teen angel” for Einstein students for almost 50 years. Monte was also the co-founder and president of two education unions: the Montgomery County Federation of Teachers and the Maryland chapter of the American Federation of Teachers. “Joe was always very active in the Montgomery County COPE,” says Metro Council President Jos Williams, “and he always kept the local affiliated and active in the Council.”
