Hospital Workers Prepare for Storm(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

“Hospitals are gearing up for the possibility of employees not being able to leave or having difficulty getting to work,” reports DCNA’s Sandra Falwell, a National Nurses United VP who works at Children's National Medical Center (CNMC). “CNMC has offered sleeping accommodations for anyone who wants to come in Monday evening or needs to stay over Tuesday. Employees have been told to make sure they bring a supply of any special medications they may need, toiletries and changes of clothing just in case they are unable to leave the hospital. Hospitals are 24/7 and we ultimately feel we are responsible for all our patients well being. All employees have been told to review our emergency preparedness procedures so we are knowledgeable about what to do for anything that occurs including evacuation. The hospitals have also brought in extra food and water supplies so we can take care of our patients as well as their family members who may be staying with them.” photo courtesy Pepco Connect
