DC Labor FilmFest Kicks Off Today

DC Labor FilmFest Kicks Off Today(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)This year’s DC Labor FilmFest kicks off today with a line-up celebrating the dedicated and inspiring work by firefighters, teachers, and other public sector workers. A free noontime  screening of “We Are Wisconsin” at the AFL-CIO will be opened by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and AFSCME Assistant to the President Paul Booth. Then tonight at the AFI Silver Theatre the Washington Teachers’ Union hosts a 5pm screening of “American Teacher,” as well as a happy hour in the AFI lobby for the hour before the film. The 7pm screening of “BURN,” a documentary about firefighters in Detroit, has sold out, but two new screenings are being offered on Monday and Wednesday of next week (click here if you'd like to volunteer as an usher at those screenings). For those with tickets to tonight’s screening of “BURN,” IAFF Local 36 is hosting a happy hour at Fire Station 1 Restaurant & Bar, just a few minutes from the theatre, and an antique fire truck will be in front of the AFI for the hour before the 7p show.
