Pepco Workers Expected to Vote Down Contract Today(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Pepco workers are expected to vote down the utility’s "last, best and final" contract offer today and IBEW 1900 – which represents some 1,150 members there – hopes to return to the bargaining table and avoid a strike. “A number of significant issues remain unresolved,” Local 1900 President Jim Griffin said. “A majority of our members turned out Monday to review the offer and agreed with our negotiating committee’s assessment that it’s ‘ridiculous’” Griffin added. Local 1900 and Pepco had extended the current contract several times since negotiations began last summer, but the contract expired on September 16 and the union and company can now declare a strike or lockout with just 48 hours notice. - photo of storm damage restoration after 9/8/2012 storm courtesy of PepcoConnect
