Activists Rally for "Good Jobs, Affordable Medicine and a Healthy Environment," against TPP
Tuesday, September 11, 2012(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)With negotiations on the biggest Free Trade Agreement in U.S. history held last weekend in Virginia, activists flooded in to make their voices heard against the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Chanting “Flush the TPP,” protesters spoke out against the partnership, calling it “back-room deal making for the 1%.” “If the TPP continues it is highly likely to offshore good-paying US jobs to low wage countries… deregulate Wall Street banks… displace family farmers,” and more, says DC Jobs with Justice Executive Director Nikki Daruwala. A wide range of social justice organizations rallied against the TPP, reports Daruwala, including those from labor, environmental, public health, family farm, consumer, and Occupy. - photo: retired AFGE 12 member (and DC JWJ Board member) Dave Richardson and DC JwJ Executive Director Nikki Daruwala.
