Labor On the Move: Dave Richardson & Joan Welsh Retire
Thursday, July 5, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Celebrations marking the retirements of two longtime local labor activists are
coming up. On July 6 Dave Richardson (at
right), AFGE 12 member and DC JwJ Executive Board member, is celebrating
his retirement from his position of Senior Economist after more than 20 years at
the Bureau of Labor Statistics. “Retirement’s the best thing I ever did”
Richardson told Union City. “I’m still working, but only on things I really
care about.” The July 6
party is also a fundraiser for DC Jobs with Justice, where Richardson
continues to serve as a board member. Then on July 12, friends and colleagues
will mark the retirement of Joan Welsh, who’s been at the AFL-CIO's Solidarity
Center for the last decade and previously worked at the United Food and
Commercial Workers Union. The 3:30p
party will be at the AFL-CIO Gompers Room.
