In Memoriam: CLUW Founding Member & President Emerita Joyce D. Miller

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Joyce D. Miller, founding member and President Emerita of the Coalition of Labor
Union Women (CLUW), passed away June 30 just after her 84th birthday. Miller
(at right) helped form CLUW in 1974 and
was elected President in 1977. In 1980 she became the first woman elected to the
AFL-CIO Executive Council and later served in the Clinton Administration as
Executive Director of the Glass Ceiling Commission. “Miller has been a
tremendous force in the fight to keep women's voices in the labor movement" said
Metro Council President Jos Williams. "We will miss her very much” says CLUW
Executive Director Carol Rosenblatt. “Many of us grew to know Joyce personally
over the years and will always admire all she did during her life to advance the
rights of women workers.”
