Wrongfully Fired Construction Workers Demand Their Jobs Back

Friday, June 15, 2012

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Former L&M Construction employees who say they were wrongfully fired after complaining about sexual harassment, abuse, and intimidation picketed Wednesday demanding their jobs back. “Workers have told us that they have been subject to some very disturbing incidents of sexual harassment and intimidation, and rather than assisting the workers, the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) representative has taken the lead on the company’s union-busting efforts,” said Steve Lanning, organizing director of LiUNA’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Organizing Coalition. Lanning and local LiUNA organizers have been working to arrange a meeting with L&M managers to address workers’ job reinstatement demands, but L&M has thus far refused to meet with workers. Multiple charges of retaliation have been filed against L&M with the National Labor Relations Board.
