Metro DC Labor Stands with Wisconsin Workers, Looks Forward to November(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)“This is one battle in a long, long protracted war” said Metro Council President Jos Williams yesterday in a live TV interview about the Wisconsin recall election on NewsTalk with Bruce DePuyt (at left) on WJLA News Channel 8. “We are prepared for a continuous assault by the right upon the rights of workers to join unions,” said Williams (center), adding that the real battle is coming up in the November presidential election. “Although the results in Wisconsin weren’t what we hoped for, it wasn’t because we didn’t try to do our part here in Washington DC,” writes the AFL-CIO Campaigns Department’s Eddie Acosta. “The Metro Council’s recruitment for the Recall Walker phone banks at your regular meetings and the prominent inclusion in your daily Union City emails helped to turn out volunteers. I coordinated a number of shifts throughout the period and encountered quite a number of local union members who came out to do what they could. Thanks for recruiting volunteers and for always being willing to help.”
