Monday, June 11, 2012

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)A consortium that includes the Metro Council’s Community Services Agency has just won a $150,000 grant to train hospitality workers in Prince George’s County. Working with The Training Source and Prince George’s Community College, “We will train and place 30 young people in a 12 week ‘Hospitality Express 4 Success’ program,” said CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy. The grant is being awarded by The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. “The program is designed to help low-income adults and youth acquire the skills and credentials they need to advance their careers and wages, which are critical in today’s tight job market,” McKirchy added. Support for the proposal by UNITE HERE Local 25 – which represents workers in the local hospitality industry – helped ensure its success, McKirchy added.
