DC COPE Report: Metro Council Joins Call on Congress to Strike Proposed Restriction on Spending of Local Tax Dollars

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The Metro Council signed onto a June 5 letter from Council ally DC Vote urging Congress “to oppose any effort to force Congress’ views on the District of Columbia through the fiscal year 2013 budget.” A subcommittee draft of the 2012 DC spending bill includes a provision that bans the District from spending its own locally-raised tax dollars on reproductive services for poor women, and the DC Voting Rights Coalition vowed to “continue to fight to have this unjust violation of the District's Home Rule authority removed from the FY2013 DC spending bill.”
