Labor in the News: AFSCME Council 26's Goldman on Federal Impact of Wisconsin Vote(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)AFSCME Council 26 Executive Director – and Metro Council Board member – Carl Goldman (at right) told The Washington Post (What does Wisconsin vote mean for feds?, 6/6/2012) he can’t imagine Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s recent victory “emboldening [congressional Republicans] any more than they already are.” As the Post noted, House Republicans have repeatedly pushed to limit federal employee compensation, weaken federal unions, and cut the number of federal employees. A pay freeze and many other attacks on federal workers have already been enacted. Though “a long list of additional, much worse legislation republicans proposed has not gone anywhere yet,” Goldman told Union City it’s time for federal workers to “step up the mobilization” against these attacks.- photo of Goldman at downtown SAMs workers protest outside BID headquarters on 04/29/2011 by Adam Wright
