Award-Winning Short Doc Screening Tonight(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)When it comes to politics, retired coal miner Sebert Pertee sees one big problem: the rich keep getting richer while working people lose ground. Pertee is the subject of Divide, a short documentary by Michael T. Miller and Maura Ugarte that will be shown tonight at Busboys & Poets (14th & V location). Winner of the Best Short Doc award at the recent Workers Unite Film Festival in New York City, the film follows Perteeā€™s attempts to confront race and class struggles in the mountains of West Virginia. The screening will be followed by a panel moderated by author Tom Zaniello and including Sue Thorn, a subject in the film and US Congressional candidate from West Virginia. - photo still from the film of Pertee canvassing in his local coal mining community
