Pepco Shareholders Revolt

Pepco Shareholders Revolt(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)With shareholder certificates in hand, members of the Our DC community group headed into the Pepco shareholder meeting on Friday with three demands: cut executive pay, pay their fair share of taxes, and stop the rate hike. Though denied entry at first, the majority of the crowd, chanting and waving their legal proof of share ownership, were able to gain access. Community members refused entry chanted “let us in!” at the cops  guarding the doors as hundreds more Our DC members and local activists joined them, taking the street in front of Pepco’s headquarters. A giant puppet of Joe Rigby -- the Pepco CEO who continues to receive millions in compensation while Pepco raises rates locally -- wandered through the crowd, who chanted “say it ain’t so, Joe! Say it ain’t so!” - report/photos by Julia Kann
