Committing to Respect DC(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)In light of Walmart’s bribery and cover-up scandal in Mexico, the Respect DC Coalition plans to “keep up the fight” as they take this opportunity to “look into Walmart’s questionable relationships with city officials and support the organizing of current Walmart associates through OUR Walmart” (Organization United for Respect at Walmart). "Walmart management has been cracking down on OUR Walmart members in Laurel, MD after 85 associates at that store signed a petition calling for fair bonuses, backed by community members presenting a bill to the store manager" reports Respect DC organizer Mike Wilson "Now is the time to stand with these workers and community members and demand respect from Walmart." The Respect DC Coalition is calling on supporters across the metro area to commit to participating in local events “to hold Walmart accountable,” including film screenings, store delegations, phone banking, and a parade through downtown DC.
