NALC "Stamps Out Hunger" this Weekend

Friday, May 11, 2012

NALC (Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) has collected more than 1.1 billion pounds of food for local food banks, pantries, and shelters across the country since 1992, and they aren’t stopping now. This Saturday marks the 20th annual "Help Stamp Out Hunger" food drive -- the largest single-day food drive in the country. “There are a lot of hungry children and hungry families out there,” NALC Branch 3825 President Ken Lerch told Union City. “Our branch brings in about 75,000 pounds of food each year. We're pretty proud.” This year letter carriers in Branch 3825 and branches across the country will be joined by members of other unions and volunteers as they collect donations residents leave near their mailboxes and bring them to community centers. “It's really good that labor gets behind it” says Lerch. “Labor people have good hearts. This is a demonstration of just that.” Click here for more information about the "Help Stamp Out Hunger" food drive. - screenshot from "Stamp Out Hunger" video
