WTU Pledges to Support Excessed Teachers(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)As national Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, the Washington Teachers’ Union (WTU) President Nathan Saunders (at right) commended District teachers for their “continued excellence, dedication and commitment to the education and progress of our students.” But Teacher Appreciation Week in the nation’s capital was not just a celebration of current teachers. “We have not forgotten about the 333 teachers who were excessed from the District last week” said Saunders. “The WTU pledges to fight for these teachers and will mobilize all of its resources to ensure that these educators are afforded the rights and privileges to which they are contractually entitled.” - photo of Saunders at rally in front of the Wilson Building 4/9/2012 by Julia Kann
