Mischief: Solidarity was in the air in Chicago Friday
as labor “troublemakers” from around the world arrived at the 2012 Labor
Notes
Conference. At a workshop on “Creative Organizing and Strategic
Mischief”
I found myself in a small group discussing ways to build solidarity among young
union members… Occupy Transit:
"You need something to refuel your gas tank" ATU 689 President and
Metro Council Executive Board member Jackie Jeter (above right) told Union City as a sea of
transit union workers – their neon orange shirts reading "Occupy
Transit" and " We are the 99%" -- filled the front rows of the
main auditorium… The Next Generation of Labor Women:
One works to support day laborers. Another grew up walking picket lines with
her mother. A third is a teacher at a school in Madison, WI. In all, they were
ten young women -- students, organizers, teachers and activists -- who were
able to attend the Labor Notes conference this weekend…
