Williams to Urge Confirmation of Wasserman & Hoffman to DC PERB(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Calling them “supremely qualified,” Metro Council President Jos Williams will urge the DC City Council this morning to confirm Donald Wasserman and Ann Hoffman as representatives on the Public Employee Relations Board (PERB). Wasserman (at right) and Hoffman (below) were nominated by Mayor Vincent Gray to the PERB, which functions as the National Labor Relations Board of the DC public sector. Wasserman has over 30 years of labor-management relations experience and currently serves on the PERB, while Hoffman was a “Public” member of the PERB from 2004 to 2008, and has litigated labor and employment discrimination cases on behalf of employers, labor organizations and individuals. “We are very confident that they well and truly understand the issues and the law,” Williams will testify at the Council’s Committee On Government Operations, “and will provide the unbiased review of cases so greatly needed for a balanced and productive PERB.” Noting that 30,000 DC government workers depend on the PERB, Williams added that “It is critical that this Council fully fund and staff the PERB to help reduce the back-log of cases.” - photo of Wasserman courtesy of AFSCME; photo of Hoffman at 3/19/2012 Metro Council Delegates Meeting by Julia Kann
