D.C. Parents and Teachers to Protest School Budget

Monday, April 9, 2012

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Parents, education advocates, and teachers will gather today on the steps of the John A. Wilson Building at noon to protest a proposed budget they say will “seriously undermine” the academic achievements of students in D.C. public schools. “The Mayor’s budget decisions are balanced on the backs of students and teachers,” says WTU President Nathan Saunders. The proposed 2013 budget “comes at too high of a price,” Saunders added, “fewer teachers, bigger class sizes and fewer services for our students.” Protestors will urge local legislators to challenge decreases in services for D.C. students.
