Labor-Endorsed Candidates Fare Well in Primaries

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Area candidates endorsed by the Metro Washington Council did well in
yesterday’s primaries, as the Council’s Labor-to-Labor effort fielded dozens
of union volunteers urging support for endorsees at polling sites across the
region. Here’s a scorecard, as of Wednesday morning:
District of Columbia winners:
Congressional Delegate: Eleanor Holmes Norton (D); DC
City Council Ward 2: Jack Evans (D); DC City Council Ward 8: Marion Barry
(D)
Also endorsed and in an undecided race:
DC City Council At Large: Vincent Orange (D)
Also endorsed but unsuccessful in their races were DC City Council Ward
4: Renee Bowser (D); DC City Council Ward 7: Tom Brown (D)
Maryland winners:
U.S. Senate: Benjamin
Cardin (D); U.S. House of Representatives: MD 4th District: Donna Edwards (D);
MD 5th District: Steny Hoyer (D); MD 8th District: Chris Van Hollen (D). Prince
George’s County School Board: District 1: David Murray; District 7: Carletta
Fellows; District 8: Edward Burroughs.
Also
endorsed but unsuccessful in their races were Rob Garagiola (D) in the MD 6th
Congressional District: Sandy Vaughns (Prince George’s County School Board
District 4) & Deidre Jackson (PGC School Board District 5).
