Verizon Retirees Stand with Workers for a Fair Contract(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Last week retired members of CWA Local 2108 showed their solidarity with current members as they headed into a College Park Verizon store. The delegation, made up of Calvin Foster, Barbara Eden-Balster, Carol Wright and Steve Thomas, delivered a community support letter from over 100 different organizations to the store manager and explained that despite being retired, they still care about the way Verizon treats its workers. The manager escorted the group out of the store, though he accepted the letter, promising to pass it on to his superiors. This Thursday CWA is calling for a national day of action on Verizon. In Silver Spring, CWA 2108 will hold an early-morning picket, and at 4p CWA and DC Jobs with Justice will march through downtown DC to the Verizon Center. – report/photo by DC JwJ’s Lillian Walker Shelton
