Despite Financial Challenges, Labor College Keeps Focus on Worker Education(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The National Labor College “is currently operating business as usual in every respect,” President Paula Peinovich (at right) told NLC staff yesterday (Labor College Staff Warned of Possible Layoffs 3/12 UC). “We are currently in the middle of the spring semester, registration for summer courses is open, and we are enrolling new students every day.” In addition, Peinovich wrote in an email, “the Kirkland Conference Center is operating and has some large conferences planned for this summer” and no conferences have been canceled. “We remain focused on the College’s mission of making higher education more available to workers… We are committed to working as hard as possible to find the best way to maintain college operations, resolve our financial situation and continue offering courses to union members and their families.” Peinovich has scheduled a Town Hall for NLC staff this afternoon. - photo courtesy of NLC
