2011 Evening with Labor Awards: Community Services
Thursday, March 8, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Thomas Webb (right) and AFGE 3615 are
this year’s recipients of the Thomas M. Bradley Community Services Award.
President Webb has been a long-time member of the Community Services Agency’s
Board of Trustees, and has promoted CSA through the Combined Federal Campaign to
his members, as well as ensured that his local supported all CSA programs
and fundraisers. He has also overseen a local union that has been
extremely active and visible in the community with activities including support
of the NOVA Area Labor Federation’s Platoon Program, the Capital Area
Community Food Bank, the Race for the Cure, sponsorship of a girls’ basketball
team in Stafford County, provision of Hurricane Relief, and donations for the
Domestic Violence Awareness Cell Phone Drive. This local and its president
have certainly lived CSA’s motto of “Labor Cares - Labor Shares”!
This is the third in our series this week
highlighting this year’s Evening with Labor award winners, selected for their
outstanding contributions to the metro-area labor movement in 2011. The 35th
annual Evening with Labor is this Saturday; email kmckirch@dclaborarchives.org
