DC Councilmembers Jack Evans & Vincent Orange Get Nod from Metro Council; Murray, Vaughns, Jackson, Fellows & Burroughs Endorsed for PG School Board

DC Councilmembers Jack Evans & Vincent Orange Get Nod from Metro Council; Murray, Vaughns, Jackson, Fellows & Burroughs Endorsed for PG School Board(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)District Councilmembers Jack Evans and Vincent Orange were endorsed by the Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO at its monthly meeting last Monday. “Jack and Vince are both strong supporters of working families in the District,” said Metro Council President Jos Williams. “We’re excited that Jack Evans is demonstrating his commitment to grow the labor movement by planning to introduce legislation that would allow union organizing efforts at  DC Public Charter Schools,” said Williams. “He has what it takes to be a leader on this issue and we look forward to working with him on the legislation.” Vincent Orange “has demonstrated his clear commitment to public sector workers in the District of Columbia,” Williams added. “Vince has committed to introduce legislation that will give back $19 million dollars to government employees who suffered wage cuts because of unnecessary furloughs.” Now that DC’s Chief Financial Officer Natwar Gandhi has declared that the District has a $240 million surplus, “those funds should be returned to the workers who took the hit,” said Williams. Action on endorsements in Wards 4, 7 & 8 were deferred to a later date. The Metro Council also made the following endorsements in the Prince George's County Public School Board of Education races: District 1 - David Murray; District  4 - Sandy Vaughns; District 5 - Deidre Jackson; District 7 - Carletta Fellows; District 8 - Edward Burroughs.
