UFCW 1994 MCGEO Secures First Multi-Year Pact With Montgomery County(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)In what the union termed “a turnaround in the negative pattern of the past several years and a win-win for the union, management and taxpayers,” UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO has reached a tentative agreement with Montgomery County on a three-year contract covering 7,000 of the County’s General Government workers. “We’re proud of the package” said Local 1994 President Gino Renne. “We are moving toward the goal of recovering the losses our members have endured over the past few years.” Highlights of the new contract include a wage re-opener provision in November of this year, and annually after that, an immediate signing bonus of $2,000 for full-time merit employees, 3% longevity increases, and agreement to work together on health care cost containment and a hybrid pension plan “to provide union members in the defined contribution plan with much greater stability in retirement.” The tentative agreement, which also includes new language on working conditions and departmental issues, now goes to the membership for review and a vote.
